Following up on their win in Joliette, the girls 14U Black team has done it again!

On Saturday April 29 and Sunday April 30, the girls traveled to Barrie to meet the 15U teams in Tier 2.  Saturday’s pool play saw the girls win their first set against Barrie Elites (25-21, 25-13).  The second set was against Astros de Marc Garneau, and the girls won this set 25-13, 25-22.  The final set in pool play was with Scarborough Titans ICE, and despite the incentive to sleep in on Sunday, our girls lost this match 15-25, 20-25.

Having to get up extra early on Sunday resulted in having to shake a lot of sleep from eyes, and the girls had to work hard in the crossover match to beat West Elgin Warriors (25-23, 25-23).  But this group of girls have learned that tenacity pays off, and they went on later that morning to beat the Stratford Stingers 25-22, 25-20.

After lunch, the girls were now fired up and raring to go.  In the semi-finals, they met the South County Bandits and won the match 25-14, 25-22. Solid defense and consistent hitting was the winning combination.

Knowing they were going for Gold, the girls were on fire as they met the Oakville Thunder and won 25-20, 25-19.  The afternoon games were some of the most exciting volleyball we’ve seen all season.  Both teams played hard to win, and the volleys were spectacular.

Congratulations to Tara Roberts for winning the Award of Excellence. This is Tara’s first year playing volleyball (!!!) and her plays at the net are earning her a reputation of someone to be feared if you are in the front line of the opposing team.

Thanks to all our coaches, once again.  Special thanks to Ian for taping the afternoon games, to Craig for keeping his eye on the score, and to Cayman for being our new lucky mascot.  Onward to Moncton!
