The 14U Attack Black Girls team made history this past weekend April 14, 15 by being the first Durham Attack team to win Gold at the 14U Provincial Championships in Joliette, Quebec.

In what can only be described as solid and consistent play, the girls hit their stride quickly on the opening day and breezed through pool play with no losses (Libellules Bleues 25-14, 25-15, Elite Rouge 25-5, 25-10, Gauloises 25-6, 25-14, Aigles 25-8, 25-15, Hybride 25-7, 25-13).

After a restful and quiet evening back at the hotel (not!!!), and some early morning shopping therapy, the girls arrived for the final day ready to finish what they had set out to do.

In the quarter finals, they met les Volitives, a young team that showed tenacity and endurance and made our girls work hard for every point. This was our closest match and the final scores were 25-20, 25-19. In the semi-finals, we met Libellules Blanches, but by this time, the girls had perfected their defense and attacks. What saves! What hits! What blocks! This match was taken 25-15, 25-12.

The final match of the day was against their first competitors, Libellules Bleues, and now, Durham Attack Black was a powerhouse to be reckoned with. Both teams fought hard, but our girls were determined to win, and it showed. The final scores were 25-9, 25-13.

Thanks for a great weekend girls, and thanks to our coaches Paul and Brian who always showed grace under pressure, even when they lost the whole team on Friday and Saturday night.  And thanks to all the parents and little brothers who made the trip.  Have we ever laughed so much?  We missed you Adam, Kate and Taylor!
