The 13U Girls
Red team placed 9th out of 16 teams participating in the Provincial
Championship tournament in Port Colborne on April 1 & 2.
On Saturday,
the team began the day facing the Waterdown Raiders. The team played
well, demonstrating some powerful serving, but lost 12-15 in the
tie-breaker.
The second
match saw the team lose the first game against the Brantford Tornadoes
22-25. In the second game, the girls took a comfortable early lead
of 10 points. This lead gradually deteriorated to a tie score of 24-24.
After many extremely tense moments, the girls showed great heart and
tenacity and emerged victorious with a score of 29-27. (This game had to
rank highest on the seasons “nail biter” scale – it’s not always easy
being a volleyball parent!) U13 Red proceeded to win the tie breaker
easily with a score of 15-4 (eliciting a big sigh of relief from parents
and coaches).
The third
match pitted U13 Red against the West Elgin Warriors. The team really came
together, demonstrating excellent blocking, powerful hitting and
consistent serving. They won the match with scores of 25-10 and 25-14.
The final
match of the day saw Durham Attack U13 Red facing the Burlington Blaze.
The girls demonstrated heart and solid teamwork. They lost the first game
25-20, won the second 25-20 and lost the tie breaker 11-15.
The day ended
with a fun group dinner and celebration of the season.
Sunday the
team started the day with a win against the Georgian Bay Vista (25-13,
25-17). Between matches, an Awards of Excellence ceremony was held,
where each team presented a trophy to one deserving team member. The
team was pleased to see the award go to Shelby Handley, who demonstrated
excellent skill and team spirit throughout the season. Congrats Shelby!
In the final
match of the day against the Woodstock Warriors, the team was aggressive
and well-organized and won both games 25-11.
Thank you to
Brenda Gattinger, our team parent, who did a great job all season.
Thanks also to Janet, Dan and Scott for their excellent coaching and
dedication. As a result of the girls’ hard work and great coaching,
the team showed impressive development of skills, strategy and teamwork
over the season.
Way to go
Durham Attack Girls U13 Red! We look forward to seeing what you can
do next season!!
