Help!onBeingOutsideCoachforHighSchool

A friend and I are having a hard time convincing the local High School to let us coach JV & Varsity squads. I was a cheerleader in this same High School and so was she. I have coach community for the last 8 years all ages from 5 to 14. My daughter made JV last year and her step-daughter is on Varsity. The current coach of Varsity is no longer interested and will not be coaching again. The JV's had two this year, one for football and one for basketball. The coach for JV football season was MADE to do it and had no interest. The coach for JV basketball had a son that played and she said she had to be there anyway so she would take the girls. She had NO knowledge of cheerleading and no interest and didn't pretend to. The girls were lucky if they got to practice once a week. Eight girls quit the Varsity squad during basketball because it was such a mess. Debbie and I have both met with the principle and talked with the Varsity coach. We were told no one was interested in coaching cheerleading next year. We proposed being outside coaches, with much more time to give that a teacher, and having a teacher or other school employee act as a liasion between us and the school. We were greatly encouraged by them. Almost told we diffently had it with just the subbmission to the school board on 2/22 making it official. Then the JV coach from basketball decided to pitch a fit about outside coaches. Suddenly we can't find out what is going on. The principle is now talking about the insurance liability because we are not school employees. We came back with the fact that we both plan to take the girls to a NCA camp and get coaches certification with a 1,000,000 liability policy. Explain to me how it's better and safer to let a teacher with NO experience and no interest to lead these girls. We don't know what else to do. My daughter was so excited about making it. So were the other girls. Then they didn't practice all summer, had a camp here for two days, then weren't allowed to do anything they learned in camp because the coach was afraid they would get hurt, never got to practice, and fought with each other. Now they are totally discouraged. If anyone has any idea what else we can do please let me know.

Thanks,
Kathy
