Tournament Team Coach Selection

The problem with the "win your division - coach the all-star team" is it can promote a win at all cost mentality. In our league we have opted to go to a board appointed system. This takes the emphasis off of winning at all cost during the regular season problem and also let's you stay away from a problem coach even if he does win his division. Your point is good concerning if a coach is good enough to coach in-house he is good enough to coach all-stars. Ideally you are correct, however, the board may accidentally appoint a coach who could, when put into an all-star situation away from your diamonds (representing your league to the outside world), act unacceptably, bad attitude, etc. All-stars are for the best players AND the best coaches.

As far as the emphasis on all-stars and perception of the board, this is a problem every league fights. It seems to me that tying together the winning of the regular season to coaching the all-star team would make it appear that more emphasis is being put on all-stars.
