stuck in outfield/too early to majors

On coach's suggestion we had son try out for majors (coach was moving up from minors to be asst coach) when he was nine. He spent the first year playing very rarely and always in the outfield. His second yr he was still youngest, same coach rarely played him and he only once played in infield. He was so rarely at bat, rarely touched the ball-getting on base only by walks he developed confidence problems at bat. Now he's 11 and a bunch of 11 yr olds have moved up. There is a new coach this year but the other kids his age that actually got to play ball the past 2 yrs have in some cases more skill infield but certainly more confidence. He so desperately wants a chance to play infield but looks like he may be stuck in outfield again. This was oldest kid/only boy. Hindsight is 20-20. I'm afraid we ruined baseball for him. This was a kid who at 8 absolutely loved the game, had good skills (actually pitched a few innings in minors and did ok), and had great mental game awareness of next play. He would write play by plays of Diamondbacks in diary and had memorized each players batting stance. Now he's negative, not even wanting to go to practive (though he always does) and saying he wants to quit. What do I do - should I just let him. Because of our mistake in sending him to majors to soon, should I just conceed now that baseball is over for him? At practice game and 1st game last week he was in outfield again and he's convinced that's where he'll be all season. Should I let him quit now or let him risk another season of devoting much of his free time (and missing some other activities) just to be stuck in the outfield? If so, it makes me want to cry! Tell me LL major coaches out there - What is the theory and purpose of LL. Is it to let players develop and impove. If so, how does the kid learn any other positions or develop confidence if he's stuck in the outfield. Is the purpose just to win or let the players who appear good improve further? (My son's team the last two years wasn't even good, winning only one game the entire two seasons so there was really no risk in putting my son at another position). I read Coach Tony's rock and hard place comments. MY question to him, is how does he know this kid stuck in outfield couldn't develop in to a great players if he just gave him a chance??? I think LL should strongly discourage, warn stupid mothers such as myself NOT to send kids to majors until they've done atleast 2 years in minors. Comments anyone.
