13th Annual Bear Classic Showcase Tourney - Labor Day Weekend 2003

A High School Boys Baseball Tourney, A Maryland Showcase for Our National Pastime

Press Release: The regions top HS baseball players will attend the Bear Classic over Labor Day weekend. The games begin on Fri. Aug. 29 and run through Mon. Sept 1. Amateur clubs from Md, Pa, NY & Conn & NJ are expected to attend. Teams attending the event in the past includes College Select (CT), Phil. Reds (PA), Genesee Valley (NY), Arundel (Md), MD Lakers, LI Bulls, Nor Allegheny (Pa), YRebels (Balt.), So Jersey, FABL (NY), LI Tigers, Am. Legion, & others. TJ 'Bear' Baron, the tourney director & former scout, says the Classic supports the development of this region's baseball talent, continues baseball opportunities for the boys who are graduating HS in 04 & 05 & gains exposure to active college recruiters and scouts. Since ‘91, over 15 Collegiate Conferences were represented. A partial listing of colleges attending or getting information include: Towson, GW, UoMd, Clev. St., Ind, Villa Julie, OSU, Penn St, UMBC, Tenn, JHU, Richmond, Pitt, ODU, VCU, GMU, Georgetown, Salisbury U., Catholic, Princeton, Mt. St. Mary's, St. Mary's, Navy, W&M, WVa, Liberty, Duke, Lynchburg, Hoftra, Shepherd, MC-R, PGCC, MC-G several NAIA colleges & others. Games are played on a beautiful AA ballpark at Harmans Park, & Arundel HS where several pro players played in their amateur careers, and where the MD HS State Championships are held.
