OH NO!

By: Scorekeeper

After dealing with this stuff for so long and at such a high level, I can say with no reservations what-so-ever that gymnasts are the ultimate athletes in the world. Although I love baseball, as far as pure athleticism and dedication, ball payers are on a pretty low totem pole comparatively. My daughter has placed very high in the state meets for 3 years and I can tell you that's a feat not to be taken lightly.

But, gymnastics is a different kind of sport than baseball. Although there are teams, you're out there on your own with thousands of people looking at you and holding their collective breath because what you're doing is extremely dangerous and extremely hard to do.

The reason I'm saying all that is because I know if it comes to the point that my daughter wants to really give it a try, there won't be another girl trying out who can possibly match her strength, reflexes and agility, but that's a far cry from being ably to apply those things to baseball.

Actually, in a way I'd love to see her go for it, but something would have to give somewhere. I have all the time in the world to work with her, but I don't know if I could possibly just stop being involved with my son, cold turkey. There's just no way to be in two places at the same time, and to be fair, since he's had my total attention for the last 9 years, it would be her turn.

I don't know how people with more than one child performing at a very high level in a sport do it! So much of the child being able to continually put out an extreme effort is having a parent there for support, even if they are extremely precocious and self starting, there's no substitute for that parent being there.
