Speial Pinch-Runner rule
By: Scorekeeper
I have no debate as to its application at all. I understand that. I also have no debate with it adding something to the game that could be beneficial. I disagree that its similar to the CR rule in HS. That rule it designed to speed up the game, not give a running advantage to the offense. In fact, there have been many times when I've seen a player come in as a CR who is nowhere near the base runner that was removed. Whether or not it relieves the obligation of the MPR is beside the point. Whether or not that rule is in place, the manager can still use a pinch runner, so what's the big deal? As long as there's reentry, the manager of a 12 man team has at least 3 opportunities to pinch run. I realize a lot of people like the rule, but please don't give someone needing a "breather" as being justification for it. the whole purpose of sports is to test the athletic skills, including running speed and stamina. I a player isn't up to the same level as his peers in those areas and they are important to a team's success, he either needs to improve them or take a reduced role. I reiterate, there are plenty of ways a coach can manipulate the players during a game for success. Adding one more doesn't mean it will or won't be used properly and to the benefit of the players, but it does mean one more thing that will slow down the game and that the coach has to clutter his mind with.
