Bat Selection

By: Randy Dykstra

Great Table! Nice Idea.

However, I hope no one uses this as absolute. For example, I see a 4'9'' kid 91 pounds has a 31 inch bat recommended. It has been my experience that most kids under 5 foot or even taller have a hard time creating enough bat speed with any bat over 30 inches. From physics remember force applied on a lever (moment arm) is proportional to length and mass. Therefore it requires more force to swing a longer bat at the same speed of an equal weighted shorter bat and Bat Speed is the name of the game when talking hitting for power.

This is the same reason why a short stroke is better than a long looping swing.
