Add a little spice!

For anyone interested in trying something that adds something a little extra to the game experience, take a look at http://infosports.com/scorekeeper/ and look at the newsletter.

I've done one of those for every game my son has played for the last 4 years. its nothing elaborate, but it gives the folks who can't make the games some idea about what went on.

I try to have a little fun and give the guys a chance to see their name in print. You'd be surprised at how many folks save those silly things too. They get sent to friends and relatives and put in scrapbooks.

I do have some rules about writing it however, and I'd advise anyone who decides to give it a try to use those rules.

1) I never mention anyone's name on the opposition unless its something fantastically wonderful.
2) I never use a player's name associated with an out unless it moved up a runner or scored a run.
3) I never use a player's name who made an error unless it was something silly that can be made light of.
4) I never use foul language.
5) I stay completely away from any references to any deities, prayers or anything else that might insult someone's religion, or lack thereof.
6) Although I used to put the cumulative batting average and ERA's into the box scores, I stopped and wouldn't advise anyone doing it.
7) except for "special" issues, I keep it to 2 pages, max!

That's about it. I try to keep it light and to find something good in every game., because there always is.

Its really pretty simple to do too. I just use the score sheet and go through it one batter at a time. It takes me about an hour to do it just because I'm a lousy typist. I encourage any of you would be Pulitzer Prize winners to give it a shot, It really is a lot of fun to do and everyone seems to enjoy it.
