Opinions, Feedback, 4 or 5 man Pitching Rotation

Long Toss is a part of all Baseball Players Arm Strength Development and
Arm Strength Maintenance Program.

Whether or NOT a starting pitcher
utilizes LONG TOSS on game day
is of individual taste.

Prior to back surgery, Randy Johnson
did long toss 45 minutes prior to game
time. After heading to Arizona diamondbacks, I have not seen him
(however, I want to head to Philadephia
to see him pitch ....NL vs AL thing)

Mike Mussina does NOT do long
toss prior to game (but does throw
flat about 75-90 ft in outfield for 2-4 minutes. And at the same time, Charles Johnson (C) is throwing LONG Toss is OF
~ 250 ft peak (and with friend (and BP pitcher) Tommy Vaithe. When the Japanese Ameteur Travel Team visited USA to play in Aug last year, all players did LONG TOSS (and at an amazing
270 ft ! )

You have asked me what is my view about ice?

Between the two schools as previously
noted, I am definitely old school
(and am leaning). I think this debate
is truly becoming an individual choice. I think best to teach the kids
that is it more important to recognize
and understand the more important variable, that being arm
maintenance vs recovery time.
This at least, gets the players
at least thinking about their own
routine, rather than the personal taste
of some very good and practical trainers (except maybe those that are in NC.)

cheers

Getting Game Ready
Next time you head out to a big league game, arrive early, and observe
the starting pitchers 'warm up' routine.

It may look like this:
e.g. 7:05 Game Time:
6:25 pm. Head to Bull Pen
6:30 pm. Long Toss, Flat (for 4 min)
6:34 pm. Head to Bull Pen w/ bull pen coach

6:35 pm Loosening UP
6-7 pitches per min
Fastballs - Wind up
Breaking Balls - Wind UP
Other pitch - Wind Up
4-5 pitchers per min
Fastballs - Stretch
Breaking Balls - Stretch
Other pitch - Stretch

6:55 pm Game Ready
w/ Starting Catcher
FB/CB/Ch Ups on Black

7:00 pm Home Team Pitcher & C to Dugout

7:10 pm Visiting Pitcher may stay and
head to mound at bottom 1st/

Of the 35 minutes of Game Ready Throwing
about 10 % was spent on flat, and most
of that Flat time was spent semi-Loss Toss.
