Winter work for spring. need help/suggestions.

Mike, A. Control at 10 is difficult for most but, it is usually dealt with by checking mechanics. check the following. 1.does he have balance at the top of his leg lift( can he hold tje leg up for 3 secondsat the top? 2.Does his lift foot come down to almost the ground before it goes forward to plant? As opposed to swinging it out ,out away from the bodyand then forward and down to the ground? 3. does his head go straight to the target as he follows through instaed of off to the side so his arm can clear as it comes forward? For the arm strength at ten I wouldn"t do any weight work but just playing catch and throwing long toss is a good way to build up arm strength. For twisting the wrist you want to fix that immediately or he will develop elbow problems. With a felt pen draw a 1/2 inch wide line around the center of a baseball and then have him grip the ball with the stripe between his fingers in a fastball grip and throw keeping his fingers on top without turning his wrist as he throws. If he does it right the stripe will stay running 12-6 o'clockas it spins to the target.Just let him play catch with this ball and have him cocentrate on keeping the rotation correct as he throws. B. For the hitting use a double T and place one T in front of the other about 6in. apart.Have your son drive the back ball through the front ball trying to keep arc of the swing level thru the contact zone. Also check to see if he is pivoting his back foot as he swings so he can completely open his hips during the swing. c. Draw 1 inch numbers on several baseballs and then toss grounders to your son and ask him to focus on the ball all the way to his mitt calling out the number as soon as he can see it. D. Remember your son is only 10 let it be fun. Don't drill him to death this winter until its no fun anymore. Hope this helps! SEADOG
