College DH vs. High School DH: HS rule interp!

By: Jeff T
Add to Mixx!

Here is a great application of the "wierdness" of the HS rule, straight off the Federation interp. page:

SITUATION 16: The DH is batting for F4. After reaching base in the first inning, the DH is replaced by F4 who enters as a pinch runner. F4 returns to play defense. When F4 is to bat in the fourth inning, the DH pinch-hits for F4. Upon reaching base, F4 pinch-runs for the DH.
RULING: This is legal. Since the DH and F4 are both starters, they each have one re-entry. The DH was out of the game for the first time when F4 pinch ran for him. F4 is not considered to have been out of the game. In the fourth inning, when the DH pinch hits for F4, F4 is officially out of the game for the first time. F4 used his re-entry when he pinch ran for the DH. (3-1-4)
