Little League & Travel Teams
By: Coach Dunne
Dear Jeff: Thanks for the reply. I was specifically refering to a certain "coach" who was kicked out of a rival league (probably for doing the same damn thing), entered our league, and began to ask, "Who are the better players around here." This gentleman than began asking those "better players" if they were interested in playing "travel ball" when it is difficult enought to get them to attend their own house league practice. I have no issue with travel ball, and I understand the concept of having the "better" players play with the "better" players. It enhances the skill level of all involved. But you have to understand, our league is small, often lacking in committment from families to play, and has just turned the corner in fielding a competitive All-Star team. Make the trip to Williamsport, Pennsylvania this year, and you'll know what I'm talking about. It is the most exciting Little League tournament in America, and the atmosphere there is second to none. It is not our goal to win the Little League World Series. It is our goal to give our kids the dream of trying, and bringing back the love of the great game of baseball. We cannot accomplish this is every third young lad "jumps ship" to some orphan travel team. It is a matter of giving back to the League, who has given the kids so much. Late. Coach Dunne
