Radar guns

I use a device called the Speed Chek machine.... It has two 5" lighted digits and is accurate within +- 1MPH but only has range of about 25-30 feet.... You set the device next to the catcher or pitcher... I prefer catcher but you have to cover it with some protection (plastic box) in case of errant throws...

It is on special at Baseball express for I think is was $79....... At that price everyone should go get one.....

There is another product I just saw on the net called TruSpeed and they claim better specs that most guns on the market except range is only good to about 50-60 behind a catcher.... Price $295 see link below...... I'm considering that one but

I like to use for several things.... tryouts for select teams.... It give me a real good indication and possibly a good excuse to keep or cut a kid.... I use it as motivation for my pitchers.... I also use it for immediate feedback for my Ps.... they know when they throw well and can repeat it easily. I also use it to judge Change ups... Must have at least 10 MPH difference between it and FB. It also is a good indication for progress....

Again velocity is not the whole story but it is a good indicator...
