cut-off drills

Replying to.... "I am coaching a team this year and one of the many things I would like to teach is infield positioning on cut-offs. Does anyone have any experience with this? "
(Al ask me to start archiving some of my material... and I don't like going to the archives and trying top figure out what they are talking about sometimes....)

At the rec level..throwing to 2b..... that may be the extent of the managers knowledge,,,,,,

Orchestrating an entire team on cut-offs takes a lot of prcatice and a lot of good decisions on the part of several players... The assignments change base on the number of runners, where they are and what's the situation... Very few if any LL (12U) teams progress this far...

The best I've seen is like Paul described.... usually SS or 2B takes cuts unless play at home then 50% of teams will have 1B cut in the infield..... That's about it... At 9 yo you're happy if they get it to 2B.... period....

Now for travel ball (12U) at least in San Diego.... we do (and expect) everything except double cuts....and we are starting to work on those because we are playing some games on 80' bases....
