Fundraising option

Last year, as a way to raise money we created our own home-made Home Run Derby.... Basically, each kid can make as much or as little as he wants... Each kid has to go and get sponsors ..Pledges... for each foot of his longest HOME RUN ball.... they do this for a couple weeks and then we all go and have a bar-b-que and set up a pitcing machine and let the kids swing away.... You can mark off circles in out field...150 200 250 and measure off them. Then the kids collect the money and I then let them keep it!!!! They then make a payment for the tournament costs....which hopefully they can get enough pledges to cover....( there's minimal administrative overhead since the kids do most of it..yo jsut allow them to collect it and say they have a payment due.....) But the fact that they get to keep the moneyt was a big motivation for the kids (they then also learned what it costs to run a team when they have to make payment) One kid made over $500... My son collected $380.... That along with a team sponsor allowed my son to fly to Cooperstown and play at no cost to him or I.... Most kids did very well and only a couple didn't raise anything. Most raised $150 to 250... But the kids that went out and hustled...profitted and those that didn't well... parents had to come up with it. (Kinda like real life, huh???... except parents aren't always there...)
