MetalBats, Jeff T, and the Live Poet Society
By: Roger
Several times this year I had balls hit back at me throwing BP and my pitchers had several hit back at them. Probably between the 5 of us there was at least 10 or more. Each time we had time to react by either catching, deflecting, or getting out of the way. I'm definitely not as quick as I used to be but I've still been able to react. No question there are more of these type shots with the new hot bats than wood. I'm not totally convinced that they are such a great danger otherwise though. My beef for returning to wood is that it will make the kids become better hitters. With the smaller sweet spots they get instant feedback when they don't hit the ball on the button. I also think the weight/length differential will better prepare them for the higher levels as some of these new bats are -12. Both my sons, my nephew, and my best friends' son are very accomplished pitchers so I am very sensitive to this issue. I just think that these issues deserve as much time, ink, and press as exit speeds. We use wood in practice most of the time and Redline C-core in games. Floated the idea of banning the Redlines and Air Attacks by our league with no success. I'll stay tuned in. Merry Christmas!!!
