Catcher throwing - Hey GW
By: Bear
Hey GW,
What's up ? I understand your point of view. However, as a pro scout, I simply look to see whether the kid can catch and throw or not. Then attempt to project the kids tools and talents at maturity after a few looks and follow ons. To support this fine art, I also look for other intangeable things that do not show up in any report. That being: the kids ability to call, catch and throw those "nasty hammer curves in the dirt" as thrown by all pitchers. Of course the great ones, throws it for strikes, and short bounces it into catchers glove while the catcher is rocking the cradle. Yes GW, with a runner on third, we teach drop and block. In running situations, with the judy speed merchants shaking, we teach our catchers to move da' feet, drop, pick, and shoot the jsm's the best they can. And if the kid just happen to be in the front of the line when the talent was being handed out, use the cannon that God gave 'em. As always GW, cookie cutting raw catchers to drop & block pitches is a great start to teaching 'FUNdamentals'. Keep up the good work. cheers Bear
